Serving Preschool Students with Special Needs

The Riverdale Early Childhood Center is a vibrant, community preschool program located in the Riverdale section of the Bronx. Our special educators make up our talented teaching and related services staff.

Our comprehensive program incorporates each student’s Individualized Educational Plan (IEP) along with our standardized curricula (in alignment with NYS Common Core Standards) to address all educational domains. Differentiated instruction, recognizing each child’s learning ability, style, and preference is incorporated into a nurturing and supportive environment to encourage child-centered learning. Our classrooms are rich in technology, literacy based programs, visual supports, music therapy, and nutritional instructional supports.

Family involvement is an integral component of our program. Parent counseling and training activities create a partnership between our school and our families to foster and expand ongoing learning.

Our program incorporates the Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) framework to improve behavioral and academic outcomes by improving school climate, preventing problem behavior, increasing learning time, promoting positive social skills, and delivering effective behavioral interventions and supports.

The Riverdale Early Childhood Center serves preschoolers with special needs through a variety of classroom sizes.
