Meet Our Team Birch: Alec Uy

Our last runner on Team Birch, but certainly not the least is Alec Uy! Alec is an employee of EisnerAmper, one of Birch’s longtime corporate partners. This would be his first event participating as part of the Birch Family Services team.

What motivated you to participate in the NYC Half?
I am an avid runner and have run in New York Road Runner races in the past. I have most recently completed the New York Road Runner’s 9+1 program to qualify for the New York City Half and will be running in the marathon this November.

Why are you running to raise funds for Birch Family Services?

I had a close friend and teammate growing up who had autism. Through him, I learned more of what the developmental disability entailed in his everyday life as we progressed through grade school/high school. I believe and support the Birch Family Services’ cause and hope my participation aids in their mission.

How do you prepare for long-distance runs, and what strategies do you use to stay motivated during the race?

I follow a program that includes tempo runs, long distance runs, speed work, and lifting to complement my running regime.

What are some of your other hobbies?

Outside of running, I enjoy fitness and going to the gym, reading, meditation, going to church services, traveling, hiking, and camping.

Do you have any words of encouragement or tips for Half training for other runners?

Remember why you are working towards this goal. If you know your purpose and motivation, everything else will fall into place.

What are you most looking forward to leading up to or on the day of the race?

I’m looking forward to meeting the Birch Family Services Team, raising money for the organization, and accomplishing a goal with those who are just as motivated as I am.

Support Alec’s fundraising efforts here!
