A ‘Thank You’ to Our Nurses

Recently, your resilience has been tested, but each of you rose to the challenge and have worked tirelessly to provide critical support in this extremely difficult time. COVID-19 has changed how we support people in all our programs.

In recognition of National Nurses Week, it is an honor to celebrate you – our nursing staff – and take a moment to recognize all nurses and health care staff within our community. We thank you for your commitment, dedication, compassion and outstanding professionalism each day throughout our schools, residences, and day habilitation programs.

Nurses are resilient. We depend on your conviction, no matter the circumstances, to share your clinical expertise and provide care with compassion to our individuals, families and staff. Recently, your resilience has been tested, but each of you rose to the challenge and have worked tirelessly to provide critical support in this extremely difficult time. COVID-19 has changed how we support people in all our programs. Our community programs required your talent to navigate complex medical infection control matters to protect our individuals and staff while being available to our families. Your dedication and compassion have been front and center. Indeed, when schools closed, many of you needed to engage with students, families and staff in a new way. Some of you came to the aid of our community services programs being a support to our residential individuals, staff and fellow nurses by supporting staff on the frontlines to help people isolate, recover, or stay healthy. You have been a source of strength and that’s why we continue to look to you for support and guidance during this difficult period.

I would like to personally thank each of you for helping our individuals, students, families, and staff feel safe and supported – that is the Birch impact. I invite everyone to take a moment this week to acknowledge our nursing team and other nurses you know for their dedication to the provision of exceptional, compassionate care.

Thank you for making a critical difference in the lives of those we serve. I hope that you have a wonderful week.

Regards,
