Birch Family Services Celebrates 50 Years of Quality Education and Community Support Services for Individuals with Autism and Developmental Disabilities

$1 Million Donation from Hogan Lovells Kicks Off Celebration of Milestone Anniversary

NEW YORK, April 02, 2025–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Birch Family Services proudly commemorates its 50th anniversary, marking five decades of unwavering commitment to empowering individuals with autism and developmental disabilities to lead fulfilling lives. Under the anniversary theme “Advancing Abilities, Unlocking Potential,” Birch Family Services is celebrating its mission to provide high-quality education, employment, and community support services that foster independence and opportunity for individuals and families across New York City.

Founded in 1975, Birch Family Services began as a single education program dedicated to ensuring children with developmental disabilities have access to a free and appropriate public education. Over the years, Birch has expanded its impact through quality education, employment, residential, and other community programs to meet the needs of individuals with autism and developmental disabilities. Today, Birch Family Services supports more than 2,000 individuals and their families through a network of programs in 35 locations across New York City.

In celebration of the organization’s 50th anniversary, global law firm Hogan Lovells has donated $1 million to Birch Family Services, serving as the inaugural gift for a new fundraising campaign to expand programs, enhance quality, strengthen impact, and build capacity for the future.

Birch Family Services remains steadfast in its vision of a world where individuals with disabilities have the resources and support needed to thrive. Over the next 50 years, through continued advocacy, new programs, and strong community partnerships, Birch will continue breaking barriers, expanding access, and empowering individuals to reach their full potential.

Throughout the year, Birch Family Services is planning a series of special events to celebrate this historic milestone. On May 18, the community will unite for the 13th annual 5K Run/Walk for Birch at Hudson River Park. On November 13, with the 50th Anniversary Soirée at The Lighthouse, Pier 61, bringing together families, supporters, and partners for an inspiring evening to celebrate Birch. These are just two examples of different activities being planned to commemorate this Golden Anniversary.
