Birch Celebrates National Direct Supports Professionals Week
This week, September 7th – September 13th, we celebrate National Direct Support Professional (DSP) Recognition Week, a moment to honor our extraordinary staff on the frontlines of our community programs who embody the heart and soul of Birch Family Services. Every day, our DSPs empower people with autism and developmental disabilities to live full, meaningful lives. Whether at home, at work, at school, or in the community, DSPs are advocates, mentors, protectors, and the guides that help the people we support follow and realize their dreams.
As we mark our 50th Anniversary year, we are reminded that our mission has always been rooted in ensuring equal opportunity for people with disabilities. These are not just words. It is a statement about civil rights -something that every person deserves. The right to learn, live, and work in their communities. It is our DSPs who bring these principles to life for the people we support each day. They ensure every voice is heard, every dream is nurtured, and every individual can be their authentic selves in their community.
This week is also a time for reflection. Together, let’s ask ourselves: How can we continue to break down barriers to independence? How can we promote a culture of opportunity and integration? How can we ensure the people we support live the lives they choose: lives filled with dignity, purpose, and joy?
To our DSPs across Birch Family Services: THANK YOU. Thank you for your tireless dedication, your compassion, and your unwavering belief in the abilities and potential of the people you support. You are the foundation of our mission and the reason we continue building brighter, more inclusive futures. This week, celebrations are being planned across our community programs to recognize you and the incredible work you all do every day. I hope to see you at some of those celebrations. Some of our staff will also be participating in DSP conferences (live and virtual) throughout the week sponsored by NADSP and NY Alliance. Have a wonderful week. This celebration is for you.
Best regards,
