Finding the Right Fit: Michael’s Path to Purpose at Birch

When Michael joined Birch Family Services’ New Frontier program in 2025, he was determined to take the next step. While he had prior work experience, he had yet to land a full-time job that matched his strengths or gave him the opportunity to grow.

With the support of the New Frontier team, Michael began exploring what meaningful employment could look like for him. Together, they focused on his goals, abilities, and the kind of environment where he could feel confident and succeed.

“Birch helped me with getting my foot in the door,” Michael said. “We were figuring out what kind of jobs could work for me.”

Through that process, the team discovered that Michael would be a strong fit for Birch’s Facilities Department. With the match made, Michael was pleased to join the team. Today, he works as a Administrative Assistant, supporting the Facilities Team with important clerical tasks that help keep operations running smoothly.

“Since the day I started working with Michael, he has consistently impressed me,” said Michael’s job coach Olivia Cannon. “He is always early, highly organized, and gives his all to every task, and I have no doubt he will continue to thrive in his role as an administrative assistant at Birch.”

For Michael, the transition into the workplace has been a positive and empowering experience. As he continues to learn new skills and take on additional responsibilities, he feels supported every step of the way.

“It’s very relaxing here,” Michael said. “I feel really comfortable here.”

That sense of comfort and stability has made a lasting impact on Michael. With encouragement from his supervisors and the opportunity to grow in his role, Michael is building confidence and looking ahead to the future.

“I receive support here for my work,” he said. “I am going to stay here as long as possible.”
