New Frontier: Interacting with Law Enforcement

Yesterday, at the July meeting of our New Frontier program’s Monthly Employment Group, NYPD Sergeant Omar Velez paid a visit to our offices to discuss safety in the community, what to do if you find yourself in an unsafe environment or situation, and how best to interact with law enforcement. At the end of his presentation, Sergeant Velez, who is an NYPD training officer with 21-years’ experience on the force, fielded questions from members of the group, who had a lot of them.

“It was great. I like coming to Birch because I learn important things like this. Officer Velez was speaking the truth. He was keeping it real.”
